American classics Dodge Challenger
At the thought of America, I imagine many words – like a freedom, independence, skyscrapers, The White House and also the word „Car.“ America is practically the mother land of cars. This is a birthplace of first cars made on assembly lines (Ford) and beautiful “Hot Rods“. Or we can talk about the most powerful cars of this era as - Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Pontiac Firebird, Shelby Mustang, Shelby Cobra, Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 and many others. But nowadays not many people are interested in these legendary pieces and they prefer modern cars than have troubles with a „piece of crap“. Yes, some people say that it’s the crap, but they don’t know what they say. These cars are basis of today’s machines. Their engines and design were and still are unique. They’re real legends and I hope they will be forever.
Dodge Challenger was typical for its robust bodywork similar to a ship. The high and massive rear part, giant front part with a big hood, no B-post, chromed parts, front headlights hidden in the front grill – those are characteristics of this stallion on four wheels. Like or not like, this classic will be here for a long time. It will be alive forever, because this is the father of today’s sports cars – also powerful, predatory and unusual.

Modern concept of Dodge Challenger
Dodge Challenger is alive in our hearts. Some say that this deign icon need to be brought to life. Combine the heart of old classic with modern technologies with flair to save the feeling of “Old America“.

This task was given to designers of Chrysler’s West Coast Pacifica Studio – to build a car on basis of old model, preserve classic lines and show the forwardness of Chrysler. As the model; ´70 Dodge Challenger was selected.
The designer brought this model and started to study its design and lines. As the chief of exterior design Michael Castiglione said: “For me it’s a symbol of the top of car designing“.
The concept is longer and wider than the original – 152 mm and 52 mm more. It has been expected that the new body work will have characteristic lines. The typical massive front part with two suction openings with a black vinyl typical for the old Challenger and big raised rear part is a legacy of the 70’s. Two classical pairs of headlights mounted in the sporty front grill with the R/T symbol make you feel like you’re back in time.
Also the rear part is also verisimilar to the original one; it remains original lines together with the longish futuristic neon back-up light and proud chromed symbol of Dodge. Chromed signs “Challenger“ are situated right on the side.

Two pairs of inexpressive black exhaust tips are installed under the rear bumper. Another typical thing has been saved – narrow sideways pointers in the front and red warning lights in the rear part. You can’t miss the cleanness of both parts without any chromed bumpers that was obvious in the 70’s.

The chassis stands on monumental 5-spoked 20“ chromed rims at the front and 21“ rims at the back. All are booted in Good Year tires.
The body work has “Orange Pearl“ paintwork same as was used on the original model. An orange color was typical for muscle cars. Maybe this was reason why they looked so good.
The concept is powered by a 6.1 liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 425hp at 6000rpm. 0-100km/h acceleration takes only nice 4.5 seconds together with the 6-speed manual transmission. If you need stop this car, the Dodge brakes will help you.
The designers wanted to save the classics also in the interior, but with use of moder materials and Technologies. Whole interior is a combination of aggressive black color, silver acessories and orange stripes on the seats. As is typical in the case of cars without a B-post, safety belts are hidden in the seats that originally come from Dodge SRT.

The former 3-spoke Tuff steering-wheel has been also renovated. The interior is full of chromed parts on the dashboard, doors, steering-wheel etc. Gauges have a blue-light LED illumination for a better readability. It’s noticeable that the designers took care about the interior and pay a tribute to the predecessor.

So this is the new and improved (remake) of old famous ’70 car. It’s great that exists people with a sense for these cars, because not everyone realize what “muscle cars“ did for this world. They has started not only writing the history of cars but gave the cornerstone of ideas for modern designers. Whoever wants forever life for these cars, he can find for them a place in his heart. And also he pay a tribute to the “fathers of automotive industry“ as Carroll Shelby, Dodge brothers or Henry Ford. I envy of America in one thing – the American Muscle Cars!
