Koenigsegg CCX - the hurricane from Sweden

Koenigsegg
One of the basic human characteristic is a competibility. Everyone is trying to compete, maybe sometimes subconscious – at the work, with friends or in regular life. We want to be first, best or prettiest.. We can do anything for being the No.1.

And also this is the main motto of a small Swedish company – Koenigsegg. This company is lesser-known, so let’s start from the beginning.

There was a dream, the dream about a creation of a perfect and best super sport car. The car not only built as a prototype, but also available in a little series. This dream was dreamed by the man called Christian von Koenigsegg.

After years of planning and reevaluation, he decided to start the project Koenigsegg. He wanted to make his dreams real in collaboration with the great designer David Craaford. The developing of first model finished in 2000. Then he presented CC 8S and this model had been selling to the very rich fans and it became a big competition to the all prestigious brands all over the world.

In 2004, Koenigsegg has introduced CCR model. This monster had a maximum output of 601 kW and an extreme torque of 920Nm. The top speed is 395 km/h. The development of this car was based on the idea of the fastest stock-car on our planet. Engineers were successful and the record was proved by Guinness World Records book. Unfortunately, Bugatti Veyron became the fastest car shortly after.

Only one year took Koenigsegg to try being first - not only in the top speed but also with the price. A new model is called CCX.

Necessary to be said, that the car is a „monocoque“ – that means it’s only for one person. The bodywork is made from carbon fires and kevlar. The result is in its toughness and weight – only 1180 kg. The dimensions are l/w/h – 4293 mm / 1996 mm / 1120 mm. A height clearance is 100 mm. The design is very clean and maximum dependent on an aerodynamics.

Koenigsegg
The heart of CCX is a 4.7 litre V8 engine. A turbocharging is provided by ROTREX turbines that work under pressure of 1.2 bar by a multi point injection. The engine’s output is now 593 kW at 6900 rpm. A power output per litre is 126 kW. Despite of lesser „pricelist“ output as a precedent model, now the top speed is more than 395 km/h. No comment: 0-100 km/h acceleration is done in 3.2 seconds. A quarter mile run‘s result is 9.9 seconds and a finish line speed is 235 km/h. 6-speed Cima transmission was specially designed for this model.

High-quality brakes are necessary for breaking this horse. In front we can find 362 mm disc brakes with width of 32 mm. A six pistons calipers brake system is supplemented by the brake discs made from a special alloy that is extreme temperatures resistant. Rear brakes are similar as the front ones. ABS system is obvious. The brake „security“ is provided by Koenigsegg Advanced Control System. If a potential customer wants a superior brake system, he can order eight piston calipers ceramic discs that have 380 mm in a diameter and 34 mm in a width.

There are five-spoked magnesium alloy wheels with central bolts designed and developed by Koenigsegg to suit the specific requirements of the CCR. Koenigsegg also offers the special carbon-magnesium alloys for exacting customers. The CCR has 20x12,5 rear wheels, while front wheels are 19x9,5. These magnesium alloy rims are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, generally considered to be the best available on the market for supercars. The tires are guaranteed to cope with speeds exceeding 400 km/h. Dimensions of the tires are amazing – 255/35 R19 in front and 335/30 R20 in the rear.

Also the equipment of the car is more than luxurious – including leather furniture of the seats and the interior, airbag, automatic air conditioning, traction control with 5 different settings, tire pressure sensors. Koenigsegg CCX has an ambition to be the fastest car all over the world. It’s a dream of the whole team led by Christian von Koenigsegg. It would be second time in Koenigsegg history to beat a speed record.
